
As consultants, we work with companies in several industries and nonprofit organizations. In evaluating the performance of these organizations, it is interesting to note that companies that perform at the highest level is usually some type of formal strategic plan in place and implemented properly.
On the other hand, companies that usually there are no plans in place and the struggle seems to flounder in their efforts to be successful. And many of the organizations that successfully implement their strategic plans to use the simplified strategic planning process to get the plan written and implemented quickly and efficiently. One of the things that cause some people claim that strategic planning has lost its luster is the tendency to drag out some of the work process is long and more than is necessary to create. For a company to be successful, there must be a road map for success. Developing a sound business strategy is the result of the strategic planning process. Writing a strategic plan is not as complicated as some would lead you to believe. Make no mistake about it, if your company or nonprofit organization is without an effective strategic plan in place, run the risk of poor performance or even failure. As I said, writing a strategic plan is not difficult and not too time consuming.
The idea that strategic planning should be a long tedious process to be successful is nonsense. In fact, our experience clearly demonstrate experience of planning is much more successful and better plan if the plan is completed without too much “red tape” many strange and analysis.
